Today I thought I would review 2 of my recent purchases: the Topshop Lipsticks in Ooh La La and Rio Rio.
I haven’t really dabbled in Topshop make up before, but I recently watched a make up tutorial that convinced me to go and try their highlighter pot. Alas, my local Topshop was out of stock, but while I was browsing I convinced myself to try out a new lipstick brand.
I definitely need to wear more lipsticks. I tend to get quite dry lips when I wear them so I’m always looking for a moisture rich formula without being crazy glossy.
Firstly, the packaging is just so pretty (and ‘on fleek’ I believe is the current hip phrase…? Back me up here.) it’s the prettiest rose gold colour and the contrast of the black box and white tube really appealed to me. I dunno, I like packaging. I’m the weird packaging girl who likes to buy pointless pretty things because I like the packaging. I can’t be the only one?!
I’ve actually got on with the Topshop Lipsticks surprisingly well – I like the feel of them and they’re really pigmented.
They’re probably a bit brighter than I tend to go for, but hey, I’m being brave these days.
Ooh La La
First up, Ooh La La is the lighter of the shades. It looks like quite a strong red on the colour sticker on the bottom, but actually it’s not at all red and it’s much more of an orange/peachy shade.
When I swatched it in store compared with applying it for the first time, I was a bit shocked at how neon-peach it appeared, but after blending it into my lips it’s a very pretty peach shade but buildable as well if you want a stronger lip. I tend to just blend it in with my finger to tone it down as I really like the muted down colour.
I think this is a really pretty lip shade for Autumn and will go really well with all the Autumn outfits I’ve been reviving from the depths of my wardrobe!
This colour packs a punch. It’s bright, vibrant, and a gorgeous shade of red. It’s a typical pillar box red with an orange undertone, rather than a pink undertone, which is my favourite kind of red and means you get a really vibrant colour when applying.
Again, it’s a bit brighter than I would normally go for, I tend to go for darker cherry reds, but this is a really refreshing change.
I tend to wear a lot of black (like every girl ever), so I think this shade looks bad ass with an all black outfit and heels. Sandy, eat your heart out. (minus the perm).
I’m definitely going to try other shades in the Topshop range as I really like the shades, how they feel on my lips and the wearbility. I would say they definitely need to be swatched because the colours on the bottom are nothing like the actual end result!
What’s your favourite Topshop shade?
